Day II, Part II, Evening in Old Port, Montreal

And so we continue. We had a MARVELOUS repast of ciabatta baguette, 3 types of local cheeses, Macintosh apples (yay! I cannot get these in NM!), baby cukes, and Kurt got some red wine. I loved 2 of the 3 cheeses, but the ash coated goat cheese was NOT to my taste, though Kurt liked it.

After we were refreshed, we headed out to Vieux Montreal and the Old Port. We dressed up more, as it got much more windy and colder. So cold actually, that we bought some Canada hats and gloves!!

:D

We found this on our walk east towards the port, skirting just north of Chinatown.

Gorgeous row of houses!

It wasn't long before we got to Old Montreal and the Old Port. These edifices are on Rue Notre-Dame.

Two governments buildings, City Hall on the left and Finance on the right. This is the back of the buildings.

Kurt in front of the Canadian Finance building.

Their City Hall is an the old Hotel de Ville ... stunning!!

Vieux-Port reminded us of the North End in Boston, with narrow cobblestone streets lined with shops and eateries.

Now along the Rue de la Commune, looking up Place Jacques-Cartier with City Hall in the background right.

Old stone buildings on cobblestone streets ... lovely!

We reached the waterfront proper, after buying our cold-weather hats and gloves (!), and walked along the promontory.

View across the Lawrence River to Ile-Ste-Helene

View of the Jacques-Cartier bridge, which goes to the Ile Ste-Helene

View back, south, of the waterfront walkway.

Cute lamppost flags on a RC boat lake.

Cool shipping containers turned waterfront shops!

A close-up of the clock tower.

So LOVE this building! It is a museum and a chapel.

Tandem zip lining on the waterfront ... woo hoo!!!

Post zip line smiles!!!

After that excitement, we needed some sustenance, so we got dinner at Creperie Chez Suzette ... baked vegetable soup for me and lobster bisque with cognac for Kurt, then we shared the La Florentine crepe, with spinach and brie. Yum!!!

After dinner, we headed south on Rue Notre-Dame towards the Place D'Arms square where the Basilique Notre-Dame is, as well as our final hotel when we return from QC.

One of the most famous churches in Montreal, built in the 1800s ... we'll go tour it tomorrow.

Close up of the Notre Dame Basilica

Found this funny sculpture on the opposite corner of the Place D'Arms from the Basilica ... see the plaque below for an explanation. I couldn't help but laugh as I figured out who the "English Pug" was.   :D

That's all for Day 2 of the French Canada honeymoon folks! Stay tuned for another day of Montreal before we take the train to QC on Saturday evening, the 23rd.
