Day II, Part I, Afternoon Churches & Shopping, Montreal

We got a late start in the morning, and were out for day two by about 1 on 1am.

Our first order of business was FOOD! I had noticed a egg place on Rue Sainte-Catherine yesterday, so we headed that way as we wanted to have an easier day and do some light exploring and some shopping.

So yummy! The "bravocado" at Eggs-pectations on Rue Sainte-Catherine.

After the MARVELOUS brunch we headed south on Rue SC to find some places to shop. We came across the same church as last night, St. James, and this time got to go inside and also got some history from a local priest.

The altar, with Kurt on the left.

Again, I love stained glass!

More glass ...

The colors are off here, though it looks way cool! I love the intricate plaster work.

The same cool window from last night, this time from inside. Kurt on the right.

I don't think I've ever seen a church with such a large and open second floor. It was cool!

From there we continued south on Rue Sainte-Catherine until we came to Phillips Square and another church, technically a cathedral, and an underground shopping area. Actually, the place was FULL of shopping, it reminded me of Downtown Crossing in Boston.

The Cathedrale Christ Church was stunning!

 Love the juxtaposition!

 Gorgeous!

Gargoyles protecting the cathedral

Cool reflective image.

Another really cool thing about the cathedral was that in the late 80s, if I recall correctly, they dug underneath it and built a really nice shopping mall! We got some souvenirs for the boys, as well as all our nieces and nephews there. Here is an image of the construction of that, which I found in the cathedral.

Cool!

Images of the inside of the cathedral ...

 I love the ceiling!!

View of the "high" altar, taken from the regular altar.

 The high altar.

 Sacred selfie!

This is a gorgeous piece of yarn art, I guess you'd all it ... in a small children's chapel.

From there we went across the street to a famous old jewelers, Henry Binks. Gorgeous architecture and a really cool retrospective exhibit inside of Mr. Binks.

The building was built in 1894 and is bigger than Tiffany's flagship in NYC - a fact that Binks was quite proud of as Tiffany's was his rival.

Great doors!

A really neat sculpture inside the Binks store.

After the jewelry store we decided it was time for a rest, so we headed back home with a pitstop at the IGA grocery store, as well as the post office. We mailed off souvenir packages to all our "kids" ... the boys and all the nieces and nephews.

Along the way we passed the Museum of Contemporary Art, with an interesting "exhibit" outside ...

A pregnant lady inside a box of children's plastic balls ... hmmm ...

Lastly, we passed through the mall so we could get to the IGA and buy bread and cheese (so yummy!!) and found some more museum exhibits, this time a photo essay.

It seems to me that Canada is more accepting, perhaps even celebrates, both LGBT and sexuality/nudity.

Well, that is all for our afternoon of Day II ... I'll post another post for our evening adventures, which included the Old Port and zip lining!!

As usual, here is a link to ALL the photos I took his afternoon:  Honeymoon, Day II, Part I
