Day I, Part I, Rue St-Denis, Montreal

We arrived at our non-airport hotel, in the area just east of Chinatown, mid-afternoon and then after getting settled, headed out to explore around 3pm.

Our plan for the day was Fodor's Essential Montreal In a Day Itinerary ... Parc Mont-Royal, east on Av du Mont-Royal, south on Rue St-Denis, with a backtrack to McGill University. This was to enable us to see the outstanding urban park, experience some francophone culture, and see the prestigious university. We switched it up a little though, as we are staying just near the corner of Rue St-Denis and Rue Rene-Levesque.

So, we walked north along Rue St-Denis, took a left, west, onto Rue Rachel (just before Av du Mont-Royal), entered Parc Mont-Royal at the Monument a Sir-George-Etienne-Cartier on the eastern end, hiked (and I do mean hiked!) to the summit, came back down on the southern end, exited the park on Redpath Cres, walked south on Rue Redpath until we reached Rue Sherbrooke (a main road), went east for some time, then south to Rue St-Catherine, and east again to Place de Arts, then onto Rue Rene-Levesque and east a few blocks home.

This post if for the Rue St-Denis experience only, which included lunch at a cute make-your-own-sandwich place that also had smoothie. I've posted a few pictures here, but also a link to all the Rue St-Denis pics. Here is the link to the full photos for Honeymoon Day I, Part I, Rue St-Denis

One thing, there are SO many, I love about European culture (and this IS euro culture here), is there insistence on sidewalk cafes ... even SUBWAY and MCDONALD'S have sidewalk patios and tables here.   :D

Rue St-Denis, the first image I took of it. This is a stretch of funky boutiques and sidewalk cafes.

A stunning private residence. Simply LOVE this kind of architecture.

The inside of a fancy cafe where we had AMAZING creme glacee!

A beautiful slate roof, there are MANY here.

Selfie in a small park we found after turning west onto Rue Rachel to head after from Rue St-Denis and towards Parc Mont-Royal.

Until the next posting, which is to include Parc Mont-Royal, Mc Gill University, and our evening shots.

xoxo
