Day VII, Lower Town & Coupe Memorial, Quebec City

Bonjour mes amis! Merci pour la lecture!

We are on the train back to Montreal, it's Thursday the 28th, early afternoon. So, since I didn't have any time to blog yesterday or this morning, I thought I'd write now.

:D

Yesterday was a quiet, easy day. We were both tired - - it's tiring to explore, to take in that new place, to experience it ... especially when it involves staircases and going between something called "upper" and "lower" town! But, it was fantastic too!!!

Kurt was up and out early, to the post office to ship off more gifts, while I blogged about Chute Montmorency. When he got back, about lunchtime, he was wiped out. We had a small meal and he went down to nap. I finished up blogging and headed out to Lower Town to finish gift shopping before our night of hockey. I got some FABULOUS items ... wait until you see!

I will post them all on the Honeymoon Purchases Google Album after we get word that the intended recipients receive them.  :)

All of a sudden, it began to thunderstorm! I waited a few minutes and it passed by, but took my raincoat and an umbrella just in case. It was warm though! In the mid-70s.

View from the patio as I head out

Lower Town/Frontenac Selfie!

View towards Lower Town from Blvd Champlain ... this looks SO good that it reminds me of a movie set!

Place Royale, with Notre-Dame des Victoires ... the oldest square and church in the city

More of Place Royale, with Maison Smith being the building with the red roof. They make a MEAN maple latte!!!

Said maple latte    :D

View of Place Royale from my outdoor table at Maison Smith. STUNNING, just stunning

Directly across from my table at Maison Smith ... I was looking at the roofs, as I often do in Quebec (and did in Europe too, as they have WAY better roofs than we do!), and I noticed that the three roofs each had a color-coordinating roof-ladder on top of it. Which I thought was TOO cool and quaint! Check them out in detail ...

Un ...

Deax ...

Trois ...

After my oh-so-lovely latte break, I ghot down ot some serous shopping! I got items for family, friends who are like family, and for Kurt and myself too. Yay! I'm excited to show you all in the Honeymoon Purchases Google Album after we mail them off.

I got back around 5pm, we had a quick/light meal of quinoa salad and bread/cheese and headed off to watch some Canadian hockey!!

Our "heading out" selfie! Me in my new Quebec hoodie - - to represent!  :D

The location of the MasterCard Coupe Memorial 2015. There is history attached to this event and this location, see the final hockey image below for details.

The Rimouski (also Quebec province, but out by Tadoussac) Oceanics ... the visiting team and the one we are not rooting for

The Quebec City Remparts - home, and host of the Coupe, team!

This was a BIG deal ... lots of hockey celebrities on the red carpet

The singing of "O Canada" by the evening's performers, Motel 72 ... the audience was singing along!

These human-zambonis were cool!!!

Well, our team lost, 4-0. But it was an exciting and historical game! First off, it is the last hockey event that will be played at the Colisee Pepsi, as they've built a new arean next door. Also, the Remparts haven't hosted the Coupe Memorial since 2003, and haven't won it since 2005. The Oceanics winning last night meant that they've tied it with the Remparts, which is the first time two teams from the same province have played a tie-breaker since 1986. Also, this is the arena that the now-defunct NHL QC Nordiques used to play, they played in the 80s and 90s.

We took this so you could see the simulated cannon-fire, in the wall under the gazebo ... zoom in to see the red light simulating a cannon battle.  :D   We are in the Coast Guard's HQ park on Blvd Champlain, on our way home - late night, past midnight as we stopped for dinner at Les 3 Brasseurs again. Lovely!

Our last shot of Le Chateau Frontenac ... thank you for the magical, marvelous memories!

Well, our time in Quebec City is done. I cannot overstate how WONDERFUL of a time we had. The lodging at 283 Blvd Champlain, right on the Lawrence River, was parfait! The architecture, nature, lights, shopping, food, ambiance, romance, reason for travel, and company were OUTSTANDING!!!!!

:D

Merci beaucoup Quebec!!!

Kurt says "I've never been to Europe, but I imagine QC to be very European or French. It was a very romantic city with great culture."

Thank you for joining us here. We have one last day in Canada, well, evening really as we arrive in Montreal at 3:45 pm. Then, tomorrow, we are off to Chicago for several hours on our way home, and get to see a Cubs game at the historic Wrigley Field. Stay tuned!!

Here is, as usual, a link to ALL the photos I took this day: Honeymoon Day VII, Lower Town & Coupe Memorial, Quebec City
